A Philosophy of Lost

Based on Calvin Rutstrum’s book, The Wilderness Route Finder and Harold Gatty’s Finding Your Way Without Map or Compass, A Philosophy of Lost began as a by-product of occupying the landscape on and around Governors Island, New York, during a 5-month artist residency sponsored by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. Inspired by the military history embedded in the surrounding land and seascapes, large-scale grids and scrolls track the daily ferry rides to and from the island. Fragments of daydreams and fantasies that play out in short video sketches intersect with the Once Removed and Chasing Napalm projects as I wander the island.
