(Re)imagining a Narrative

(Re)imagining a Narrative addresses the complexity of what is remembered through the image as it weaves in and out of personal mythologies. Together with the photographs from the Near East Relief Foundation (the first philanthropic organization to create a relief effort in Armenia 1915) and the family stories of my colleague, Nazan Maksudyan, a historian and Armenian Jew born and raised in Istanbul, images are recontextualized and reinterpreted. As memories are retold, storytellers die and recollections become diluted. Truth (or fiction) as seen through the photograph and moving image, is suddenly up for debate.
